    The Wenchang Satellite Launch Center (also known as the Space Launch Center or Base) is located south of Longlou Town in Wenchang, Hainan. Its predecessor was a testing base for China to launch suborbital rockets (including ballistic missiles). In September 2009, with the approval of the State Council and the Central Military Commission, the renovation and expansion were completed by October 2014. The Wenchang Satellite Launch Center is the fourth satellite launch center in China after Jiuquan, Taiyuan, and Xichang, and also the first low latitude coastal launch base in China. The total area of the center is about 18531 acres. The main building includes a command center, assembly plant, fuel base, and launch site, with five major system functions including testing launch, measurement control, communication, meteorology, and technical service support.
